Fahim Rahman

Student-at-Law

Practice Description

Fahim Rahman joined Shores Jardine LLP in April 2021 for his articles after clerking at the Court of Queen’s Bench of Alberta. He assists senior lawyers with a wide variety of administrative law, municipal law, and professional regulatory matters.

Background

Fahim was born in Calgary, but calls Edmonton home as he grew up there. Fahim studied at chemistry at the University of Alberta. He was an undergraduate researcher in the Department of Chemistry throughout his studies before being elected as the University of Alberta Students’ Union President in 2016 at the end of his degree. There, he represented 30,000 undergraduate students in a full-time role to the University administration, and provincial and federal governments. This foray into student governance and acting as a representative spurred his interest in the law.

Fahim studied law at the University of New Brunswick. His first exposure to practicing law was volunteering with Pro Bono Students Canada where he assisted the New Brunswick Aboriginal Peoples’ Council with research on the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women’s issue. Fahim also was a part of UNB Law’s 2019 Wilson and 2020 Jessup moot teams, the latter of which made it to the national final round as a top four team in Canada. He also received the Timothy McLaughlin Prize in Criminal law, the Bryden Family Prize in Administrative Law, and the Law Faculty Prize as the most outstanding member of the graduating class.

Education

  • 2020 – JD (with Distinction) – University of New Brunswick
  • 2016 – BSc (Specialization in Chemistry) – University of Alberta

In His Own Words

I enjoyed learning about the law and its practical implications on people’s lives in law school. In my short time here, I have seen how Shores Jardine is committed to excellence in understanding both the law and how client objectives can be best advanced. I am excited that I can continue to learn while serving the public good as a student-at-law here.

Away From the Office

In his spare time, Fahim coaches newer players to the competitive world of Super Smash Bros Ultimate for the Nintendo Switch. He also enjoys exercising with friends, cooking, and keeping up with the Edmonton Oilers.
