Practice Description

Monica joined Shores Jardine LLP as an associate in February of 2022. She assists senior lawyers in a variety of administrative law, municipal law, and professional regulatory matters.

Background

Monica received her Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) with First Class Honors and her Juris Doctor with Distinction from the University of Alberta.

Monica was extensively involved in her law school community. She served as an editorial board member and later the Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Alberta Law Review, a leading student-run academic publication on Canadian legal issues. In this position, she read and corresponded with academics on the merits of the latest legal research. She participated in the Donald G. H. Bowman National Tax Moot for the University of Alberta team and served as a moot mentor to first-year law students. She volunteered with Student Legal Services as a caseworker in their Criminal and Civil Law Projects where she helped low-income individuals access legal services and navigate the court system. She also participated in Law Show, developing her theatrical skills with fellow law students.

As a summer student at a small Edmonton firm, Monica worked on research in municipal and administrative law. Monica articled and practiced as an associate at a mid-size Alberta firm assisting in general civil litigation matters and gaining further experience in administrative law before joining Shores Jardine LLP as an associate in February of 2022.

Monica currently serves as a member of the executive team of the Canadian Bar Association North Alberta Young Lawyers section.

In her spare time, Monica enjoys reading nonfiction, playing board games with friends and exploring Edmonton’s culinary scene.
